George Bailey was selected for Australia in 2010 but made his debut only in 2012 as captain of the T20I team. In the process he became the first Australian since Dave Gregory in 1977 to lead his country on international debut. Bailey has also been the captain of the ODI team in the absence of Michael Clarke.
A middle-order batsman hailing from Tasmania, Bailey has often been used as a floater up and down the order. An unassuming man off the field, Bailey is often devastating with the bat and astute and calm in his leadership. 'Hector', as he is nicknamed, can thump the cricket ball high and long.
His exceptional limited-overs form earned him a Test cap in Ashes. He played all five Tests as Australia whitewashed England on her way to regaining The Urn. However, Bailey could not impress with the bat and was dropped for Australia's next series South Africa.
He did etch his name in the annals of the sport when he smashed 28 runs off a James Anderson over at Perth to equal Brian Lara's record. Bailey remains a vital cog for Australia as they look to win the World Cup on home soil in 2015.
