David Warner is the strange case of a batsman who first made a name in T20 cricket before going on to shine in the classical format. Despite his small frame, David Warner can generate immense power and smash bowling attacks into submission.
He made his Australian debut in a T20I in January 2009, thus becoming the first man to play for Australia without even making a First-Class debut since 1877. That also helped him clinched a contract with the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009. Despite his fast-tracked appearances for Australia, Warner only cemented his spot in the national team in late 2011, when he made his Test debut against New Zealand and smashed a ton in his second game.
Warner had a few memorable performances in 2011-12, the most memorable of which came when he carried his bat against New Zealand at Hobart. His career came under threat in 2013 following his many run-ins with journalists and fellow cricketers, of which the most talked-about is the one that had occurred in a bar in Birmingham.
Warner punched England's Joe Root during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, which led to him being sent away from the squad. He returned with a vengeance, dominating the scoring charts in Ashes 2013-14 and following it up with a quality performance in South Africa.
