The bulky, aggressive batsman makes for a perfect player in the Twenty20 era with his ability to smash big sixes. The record 156 against England in a T20I in 2013 helped him secure a regular spot in Australia’s limited overs side.
He had made his debut much earlier in 2011 against England and scored a fifty in his second T20I but he had to wait for two years to make an ODI debut in January 2013. A year down the line, Finch had hammered three ODI tons to prove his abilities.
Finch made his First-Class debut for Victoria against India in a tour match in 2007 but didn’t get to bat. In the following season he scored 416 runs at an average of 37.81 including a ton against Tasmania. He was equally good in the following season averaging 34.50.
In 2009, he performed well for Victoria in the Big Bash. He also represented Australia at the Under-19 level and played the 2006 Under-19 World Cup.
He made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2010 and moved to Delhi in 2012, but it was in 2013 that he became a regular in the Pune Warriors India, whom he then captained. He was an integral part of Sunrisers Hyderabad campaign the following season.
