One of the finest talents in world cricket, Pat Cummins’ career has been plagued by injuries too often for comfort.
He rose through the ranks at a young age, and took the world by storm with a sensational debut against South Africa 2011-12. Cummins ran through the batting line-up with an impressive six-wicket haul at New Wanderers — and scored the winning runs to level the two-match Test series.
Thanks to persistent injuries, it remains Cummins’ only Test. He did manage a few more limited-overs outings including the ICC World T20 2012, but has struggled to maintain his fitness.
Cummins is a tall right-arm fast bowler and at present, probably the fastest around. Hailing from New South Wales, he is a permanent fixture for Sydney Sixers in the Australian Big Bash League. He was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2014.
If he manages to find a way to counter injuries, Cummins will definitely be a crucial cog of Australia’s future plan, sharing the fast bowling department along with James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner.
