Christie’s International Head of Retail for Watches, Reginald Brack, gives an in-depth look at this New Old Stock Rolex Explorer II, Ref. 16570, from circa 2009, with Rolex Presentation Box, Outer Box, Product Literature, Hang Tags, Green Rolex Wallet, International Guarantee Card & Rolex Pocket Size Calendar. The Rolex Explorer II debuted in 1971. This watch was meant for explorers, specifically speleologists who needed a tool to help them distinguish between day and night when they are in a cave and have no concept of light or dark. Over the years this model has been modified by Rolex. This model is the last of the 40mm cases because in 2011 the case was changed to 42mm.
