Akshar Patel is a left-handed all-rounder who made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2012-13 for Gujarat, but came into prominence the next season. After eight first-class matches his batting and bowling averages read 44.55 and 24.10 respectively, which have helped him an obvious choice for the national side.
After being picked for the Mumbai Indians in 2013 without getting a game, Akshar made his mark in the 2014 IPL after putting in a good show for the Kings XI Punjab as their lead spinner. While he bowled some economic spells, an innings of 42 not out off 35 balls against the Delhi Daredevils showed his mettle with the bat as well.
Akshar was selected when Indian sent a second-string side to Bangladesh in 2014, but he returned without much success. He came back into limelight after a decent performance in India A’s tour of Australia A that followed.
