ANDAZ (1949) is Mehboob Khan's masterpiece with a striking background score, captivating cinematography, innovative direction and brilliant performances from its 3 lead artistes – Dilip Kumar, Nargis & Raj Kapoor. It was the only time that the two legends Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar came together for a film. Raj Kapoor did try to cast Dilip Kumar with him years later in ‘Sangam’ but things didn't work out. ‘Andaz’ took Nargis right to the top and established her as one of India’s finest actresses. The film is a musical triumph for Naushad as each and every song in the film was a raging hit. Naushad tried something different by making Mukesh sing for Dilip Kumar and Mohd. Rafi for Raj Kapoor. He also had to fight against several odds to justify his choice of Lata Mangeshkar for the four female solos. After ‘Andaz’ Lata was on the road to super-stardom. The film is till date regarded as the mother of all love triangles of Hindi Cinema. What gives ‘Andaz’ it’s cult status and timelessness is that the film remains modern even in today’s times.
