The Story Of Mughal-E-Azam | Dilip Kumar - Madhubala | Retro Diaries

The shooting of Mughal - E - Azam had started in 1944 but it released in 1960. First choice for the movie were Chandra Mohan, Sapru and Nargis. But the financer of the film shifted to Pakistan after Independence and actor Chandra Mohan died of a heart attack which caused the change in star cast. This did not kill his passion to make the movie. Madhubala was unwell during the shooting of the film but she tried her best to complete. K Asif wanted to film famous song from the movie Pyaar Kiya To Darna kya extremely beautifully. He made a Glass palace to shoot this song but he was not pleased with the outcome so he ordered for some special glass from Belgium for better effect. About 20 songs were recorded for the film but as the film was already quite lengthy a lot of songs were edited. Bade Gulam Ali Sahab sang a song based on Hindustani Raag for the fee of Rs 25, 000 which was a huge amount of money back then. Actress Zeenat Aman's father was one of the writers of Mughal - E - Azam. K asif had shot parts of the movie in colour and then it was in 2004 that the film was re released in colour.
