Learn more about this piece and other vintage and modern watch styles at Christie’s Watch Shop:
Christie’s International Head of Watches, John Reardon, gives an in-depth look at this Patek Philippe Ref. 1585. This example includes an extract from Archives confirming manufacture date of 1946 and the sale date of May 10, 1946.
SPECIALIST NOTES: This Patek Philippe reference 1585 in pink gold with hooded “wave” lugs is one of the rarest time-only models (in any color metal) ever made by Patek Philippe. But what catapults it into the stratosphere of rarity is its highly desirable case in pink gold and two-tone rose dial combination. The watch, which was manufactured and sold in 1946, is accompanied by its Extract from the Archives. Its exceptional condition makes it all the more remarkable that this watch is almost 70 years old. With its charismatic and pristine mirror track dial with applied gold Roman numerals at 12, 3 and 9, mint condition case, distinctive appearance featuring highly unusual hooded lugs, and its original period 18K rose gold Patek buckle (a rarity in itself), it has all the elements the most demanding collector could possibly want.
