Christie’s International Head of Retail for Watches, Reginald Brack, gives an in-depth look at a Patek Philippe Ellipse, Ref. 3548 from the 1960s. The reference 3548 was produced from 1967 until 1976. The references 3546 and 3548 were the first Ellipse watches produced by Patek Philippe. The exquisite blue dial on this model is actually made from gold that has been transformed by a special Patek Philippe process to look blue.
