Renowned Film Critic and Trade Analyst, Komal Nahta reviews this week’s release 'Masaan' and 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan.'

'Masaan' is a story of four fates - Devi Pathak, Vidyadhar Pathak, Deepak Chaudhary and Jhonta. Devi Pathak (Richa Chadda) who was caught while intimate with her boyfriend has to live with a fact that the raid led to the death of her love. She also has to cope with her father's (Sanjay Mishra) struggles to cover up for her and get her out of the legal hassles. The other story is a story of a low-caste boy, Deepak Chaudhary (Vicky Kaushal) who falls for a upper caste girl, Shaalu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi). Despite all the barriers when Shaalu is ready to marry Deepak, fate meddles and their love story ends on a sour note. Yet another tale involves a child, Jhonta (Nikhil Sahni), an orphan, who craves for a peaceful and healthy family life. All the stories are interwoven and converge on the banks of River Ganges. The story and the screenplay of the film are very depressing except for the initial few minutes. The film is a class appealing film. 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan' is a story of a couple who is native of Assam but has migrated to the metropolitan city of Mumbai. Rajib Saikia (Palash Sen) is a rooted person while his wife Ananya Saikia (Ira Dubey) is a self-imposing, ambitious lady. Pakhi (Prisha Dabbas) their 6-year-old daughter, much like her father is a nature loving child but she soon distances herself from nature and gets embroiled in the world of tech gadgets and glamour. The film runs on two parallel tracks but the makers find it difficult to make the two ends meet. At heart the story is quite nice but has a scattered screenplay. It lacks a cohesive plot.
