Renowned Film Critic and Trade Analyst Komal Nahta reviews that released on Friday, May 15, 2015. The film which is co-produced by Anurag Kashyap is a period crime drama based on historian Gyan Prakash's book Mumbai Fables. The film traces the love life of a Jazz singer Rosie and a street fighter Johnny Balraj.The film's screenplay lacks entertainment with one too many loose ends and doesn't bind the audience together. The first half is way too slow with too many things going on in the same play. So if the audience isn't attentive, they are sure to miss vital parts of the film. The screenplay tests the audiences' attention. However, you watch the film very dispassionately. The second half is a typical vendetta drama. Overall, the retro-ness of the film is novel for the viewers but there is nothing new that the story has to offer.
