The Kids Show, hosted by Sikh Scholar Kiranpreet Kaur and Sikh Student Rajveer Singh is an attempt to educate young Sikhs about the Sikh religion. Young Sikhs face much adversity during their school days from questioning to bullying. It's important to work on prevention by educating our youngsters to articulate themselves correctly so that they can successfully challenge the questions that they face.
Today's question was around the importance of Singh and Kaur the surname given to us by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Nowadays we only use this as a middle name and the majority of the Sikh's don't use it at all. This is usually because they use their family name, which tends to be associated with their caste. so in order to keep that ego going people prefer to use it. However, as Sikhs, it's important that we shed our ego and follow the teachings behind what our Guru's have said. Guru Sahib gave us these names for the purpose of equality and so that we would treat everyone like family. Maybe if we had kept hold of these teachings, the Panth would not be in the situation it is in today.
