There is a famous saying that goes that men come from Mars and women come from Venus. However, where people come from is immaterial, for relationships need to be honored on Earth, Mahatria says.
When two people come together, they need to understand that it is two different kinds of conditionings from the past that come together. People’s experiences dictate their expressions of love and it varies from one person to another.
Their love manifests in ways they know, and they understand love. That is a very crucial element to understand in any relationship.

Telling a tale from His own life, Mahatria relays an example from the early days of His marriage. On the second day after the wedding, He says that His wife wanted to go home to visit her mother. When he went into the room to get ready He saw three different sets of His wife’s clothes laid out on the bed. Without thinking much of it, He got dressed and went out to wait for His wife. However, upon seeing Him dressed, she looked visibly upset. Mahatria adds that at that moment, He didn’t realize that it could have been something that He’d done that upset her. Instead, He had assumed that His mother had said something distressing to her.
It wasn’t until the next morning that He realized what went wrong. While He was getting dressed for work, His wife entered the room exclaiming that He couldn’t wear the shirt He was already buttoning up. Initially, He panicked, thinking that He had married a woman who wouldn’t even allow Him to choose His outfit.
Eventually, He found out that His wife came from a family where they discussed their clothing with one another. On festivals, they would match their outfits. They would comment on and pick out each other’s outfits. He, on the other hand, came from a relatively low-income household where clothes were limited; there really wasn’t much scope to discuss outfits, let alone have enough to make a choice from.
To His wife, choosing His outfit was an expression of love. She had been brought up to believe that making such choices was showing affection and care. Since He came from a world where this seemed alien, her action felt like nagging. He believed that if He made clothing decisions for her, it would make Him a dominating husband, and vice versa.
On the contrary, she probably thought He was being indifferent to her appearance.
Language of Love
That experience taught Him an important aspect about relationships, Mahatria explains. People love depending on how they understand love. Even when people love you, they may not be able to love you or express it in a way that you might expect it.
Instead, their love manifests in ways they know, and they understand love. That is a very crucial element to understand in any relationship – just because someone doesn’t express their love the way you want them to, it doesn’t mean that they do not love you.
