Sohaib Maqsood’s rise from Multan, the city of Inzamam-ul-Haq, raised hopes that Pakistan had finally found another top-class batsman. However, a string of injuries hampered Maqsood's rise to the top and despite having showing ample signs in first couple of years in ODIs, Maqsood had to wait for his Test debut.
Maqsood began his cricket back in 2003-04 as an off-spinner, but a string of injuries meant he could only resume playing after three years. But he returned to the scene as a man on a mission, bettering his batting records in Pakistan's domestic circuit every year that passed.
Consistent show in domestic cricket helped Maqsood force his way into the national side. He made his T20I debut during Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe in August 2013. Two months later Maqsood played his first ODI against South Africa in the UAE and created record by becoming the only fifth Pakistani batsman to score fifties in his first two ODIs. His most remarkable performance came at Hambantota in 2014, where he scored a 73-ball 89 not out to help Pakistan chase down 276 in 45 overs.
