Union Minister Smriti Irani proposed the Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill 2021 in the Lok Sabha stating that the legal age of marriage for girls should be raised to 21, which would lead to gender equality and women empowerment. This proposal got both praise and criticism from the Parliament. But why is this bill being criticized? What are the benefits of this bill?
