असम के मुख्यमंत्री हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा ने कहा कि वह राज्य में बाल विवाह की अनुमति नहीं देंगे और "जब तक वह जीवित हैं" असम मुस्लिम विवाह और तलाक पंजीकरण अधिनियम, 1935 को रद्द कर देंगे। राज्य विधानसभा में विपक्ष पर हमला करते हुए, हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा ने प्रतिज्ञा की कि वह 2026 से पहले राज्य में बाल विवाह को खत्म कर देंगे।
