salman khan's hit-and-run case on jan 21
by
Salman Khan's high profile hit and run case dates back to Sep 28th 2002, wherein he was driving an SUV toyota land cruiser drunk and allegedly ran over some pavement dwellers in bandra west; killing one and injuring four.
The case's date is now Jan 21 as the prosecution sough time to appeal against retrial order in the bombay high court.
Salman Khan's lawyer Shrikant Shivade opposed the prosecution plea and urged the fresh trial to commence immediately.
Judge Deshpande posted the matter for Jan 21 and directed the prosecution to get instructions from the government on the issue of appeal before the high court.
The grounds for the fresh trial was that Salman Khan was not given opportunity to examine witnesses in the context of the enhanced charges of culpable homicide under Indian Penal Code Section 304(2) that he was suddenly charged with mid trial.
Salman was earlier tried under offence of causing death by negligence, which is a lesser offence and would have him in jail for two years.
It's ironic that the case date is only a few days ago Salman's much awaited common-man-against-the-system film Jai HO which is slated to release on the 24th of january.
