Sathya and Karthik are on the marriage altar when Dharani is pushed by a conspirator and the 'thali' falls into the holy fire. Calling this as a bad omen, Karthik's mother calls off the marriage and he also toes her line. Sathya's family is heartbroken even as her father Sundaram tries to pacify Karthik's mother and persuade her into continuing with the alliance. When Sathya sees her father falling at his feet, she climbs down from the altar and asks her father to agree to cancel the alliance rather than compromise on their dignity. As Karthik walks out with his mother, Sundaram flows them while Sathya runs back to her room. While others feared a suicide attempt, Sathya emerges in normal attire and leads all of them back hime. where Sundaram is sitting with his back facing them all.
Sathya tries to console her father in priceless words that she had learnt from him since childhood. However, seeing no response from him, she shakes him only to find that he has already collapsed.
