Surat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was found guilty in a 2019 defamation case by a Surat court on Thursday (March 23) and sentenced to two years of imprisonment. However, later he was granted bail. The defamation case pertained to his remarks on the 'Modi surname' during a political rally in Karnataka's Kolar in 2019. He had allegedly said, "How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname." This was ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in the same year.
Rahul Gandhi Latest News: कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी (Rahul Gandhi) को सूरत कोर्ट (Surat Court) ने मानहानि के मामले में दोषी करार देकर 2 साल की सजा सुनाई है. 2019 में राहुल गांधी ने मोदी सरनेम (Modi Surname) को लेकर टिप्पणी की थी, उसी मामले में कोर्ट ने राहुल गांधी को सजा दी है. सूरत कोर्ट ने राहुल गांधी के खिलाफ दर्ज आपराधिक मानहानि के मामले में फैसला सुनाया है. जानकारी के मुताबिक, सजा के तुरंत बाद राहुल गांधी को जमानत भी मिल गई है. हालांकि, अगर सूरत कोर्ट से जमानत नहीं मिलती तो राहुल गांधी फैसले के खिलाफ हाईकोर्ट जा सकते थे. इस केस में दो साल की अधिकतम सजा का प्रावधान है. शिकायतकर्ता ने कोर्ट के फैसले का स्वागत किया है.
