भारत ने आखिरकार पाकिस्‍तान की ओर जाने वाले रावी नदी के पानी को रोक दिया है. हिंदुस्‍तान ने 45 साल से पूरा होने का इंतजार कर रहे बांध का निर्माण कर रावी नदी से पाकिस्तान की ओर जाने वाले पानी को रोका है. विश्व बैंक की देखरेख में 1960 में हुई 'सिंधु जल संधि' के तहत रावी के पानी पर भारत का विशेष अधिकार है. पंजाब के पठानकोट जिले में स्थित शाहपुर कंडी बैराज जम्मू-कश्मीर और पंजाब के बीच विवाद के कारण रुका हुआ था. लेकिन इसके कारण बीते कई वर्षों से भारत के पानी का एक बड़ा हिस्सा पाकिस्तान में जा रहा था.

India has exclusive rights over the waters of Ravi under the 'Indus Water Treaty' signed in 1960 under the supervision of the World Bank. Shahpur Kandi Barrage located in Pathankot district of Punjab was halted due to the dispute between Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. But due to this, a large part of India's water was going to Pakistan for the last several years.
