The spice of a relationship is in its imperfections. Nobody on this planet is perfect. If everything is perfect, then there will be no excitement to life. The same principle applies for relationships, Mahatria says. Consistency is manufactured at business outlets, not at home.
Growth in relationships does not come from being perfect; it comes from accepting imperfections and working towards bettering them.

The spice of a relationship is in its imperfections. If the coffee at home tastes the same every day, then it probably comes from some store. Consistency is manufactured at business outlets, not at home. When you don’t know what to expect from your coffee, that is when you know it is made at home. One day it may be extraordinary; the next day it will be inedible. That is where the excitement comes from, Mahatria says. If you know exactly what to expect, then it becomes monotonous.
Life is About Imperfections
You have to learn to deal with the imperfections. Just imagine a relationship where every day, when you come home, your spouse greets you with a standard smile. They are there at your beck and call, no matter what. When you are extremely angry, your spouse or partner listens to you with Buddhist tolerance and nods in response. You have a day every week for scheduled sex.
A relationship that is so predictable will make you feel like you are with a statue, Mahatria points out.
The fun factor in a relationship is to have unexpected moments. When you expect your spouse to refuse to attend a program and they turn up, you are surprised. One day, you arrive 10 minutes late to meet them, and they make a huge scene out of it. The next time, you are an hour late and they don’t react at all. It throws you off. These imperfections are what make home.
Every person is riddled with imperfections – be it a spouse, a parent, a sibling. The design of life is such that imperfections exist, but you strive towards achieving perfection, Mahatria says. Without imperfections, there is no growth.
Love People as You Love Your God
For those who are religious and believe in God, no matter what curveballs the divine throws your way, you never stop loving or believing in God. When something goes wrong, you automatically blame fellow humans for it. When things go right, you credit God for it.
God is not an extraordinary force; instead, God is a manifestation or creation of extraordinary devotees, Mahatria explains. No matter how tragic an incident in life, be it earthquakes or the death of a loved one, it rarely shakes your faith in God. You don’t blame the almighty for it. Your unconditional faith and love for God strengthens your relationship. You still go back to the temple, church, mosque, or other places of faith to express your unwavering dedication.
If that faith and unconditional confidence can translate into your relationships, they will also grow, Mahatria says. Even after repeated prayers to the divine, when things don’t work out, you still go back and pray once more. When your spouse or partner doesn’t respond to your needs after asking for something a few times, why do you give up, Mahatria questions.
If you can be non-judgmental, ever-loving, faithful, and sincere in a transcendental relationship, why can you not emulate that in human relationships? When you are willing to shower your complete devotion to a mystical entity, you have the ability to do so with other living beings as well, Mahatria says. Growth in relationships does not come from being perfect; it comes from accepting imperfections and working towards bettering them.
