चंद्रयान-1, भारत का पहला मानवरहित चंद्रमा मिशन जिसकी घोषणा 2003 में 56वें ​​स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर दिवंगत प्रधान मंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने की थी। चंद्रमा मिशन की घोषणा करते समय, वाजपेयी ने कहा था कि देश "विज्ञान के क्षेत्र में ऊंची उड़ान भरने के लिए तैयार है"। उन्होंने कहा था , "मुझे यह घोषणा करते हुए खुशी हो रही है कि भारत 2008 तक चंद्रमा पर अपना अंतरिक्ष यान भेजेगा। इसे चंद्रयान-1 नाम दिया जा रहा है" और वर्ष 2008 में मिशन लॉन्च किया गया था।
चंद्रयान-2 मिशन में सतह के करीब लैंडर विक्रम क्रैश हो गया। तब के ISRO चीफ के. सिवन की आंखों में आंसू थे और प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने उन्हें गले लगाकर ढांढस बंधाया । 4 साल बाद ISRO इस अधूरे काम को पूरा करने जा रहा है। 14 जुलाई 2023 को दोपहर 2.30 बजे चंद्रयान-3 मिशन लॉन्च किया जाएगा। अगर चांद पर सॉफ्ट लैंडिंग में सफलता मिली तो अमेरिका, रूस और चीन के बाद भारत ऐसा करने वाला चौथा देश बन जाएगा।

Chandrayaan-1, India's first unmanned moon mission was announced by the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the 56th Independence Day in 2003. While announcing the Moon mission, Vajpayee had said that the country was "ready to soar in the field of science". He had said, "I am happy to announce that India will send its spacecraft to the Moon by 2008. It is being named as Chandrayaan-1" and the mission was launched in the year 2008.
Lander Vikram crashed near the surface in Chandrayaan-2 mission. The then ISRO chief K. Sivan had tears in his eyes and Prime Minister Modi consoled him by hugging him. ISRO is going to complete this incomplete work after 4 years. Chandrayaan-3 mission will be launched on 14 July 2023 at 2.30 pm. If there is success in soft landing on the moon, then India will become the fourth country after America, Russia and China to do so.
