गुजरात के गांधीनगर की एक स्थानीय अदालत ने मंगलवार (31 जनवरी) को स्वयंभू संत आसाराम को एक दशक पुराने यौन उत्पीड़न के मामले में आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई। अभियोजन पक्ष ने आज सत्र अदालत को बताया कि आसाराम एक 'आदतन अपराधी' है, जो उसके खिलाफ दायर बलात्कार के एक मामले में स्वयंभू संत के लिए भारी जुर्माना लगाने के साथ-साथ आजीवन कारावास की मांग कर रहा है। आसाराम पर सूरत की एक महिला ने करीब 10 साल पहले अहमदाबाद के मोटेरा स्थित उनके आश्रम में बार-बार बलात्कार करने का आरोप लगाया था। हालांकि, सबूतों के अभाव में अदालत ने आसाराम की पत्नी समेत छह अन्य आरोपियों को बरी कर दिया.

A Local Court In Gujarat's Gandhinagar on Tuesday (January 31) sentenced self-styled godman Asaram to life imprisonment in connection with a decade-old sexual assault case. The prosecution told the sessions court earlier today that Asaram is a 'habitual offender', seeking for him life imprisonment, along with a heavy fine for the self-styled godman in a case of rape filed against him. Asaram was accused by a Surat-based woman of repeatedly raping her while she was at his ashram in Ahmedabad's Motera around 10 years ago. However, the court acquitted six other accused, including Asaram's wife, due to the lack of evidence.
