Built across the Parazhiyar River, the Mathur Hanging Bridge is situated at Mathur, a hamlet near Aruvikkarai in Kanyakumari District. The aqueduct has a height of 35m and a length of one kilometer. It is the tallest as well as the longest bridge in Asia. The Mathur Aqueduct is a concrete structure held up by 28 huge pillars, the peak of the pillars reaching 35 m. The trough structure is 2 m in height, with a width of 2.27 m. This canal, shouldered by 28 huge pillars, was constructed as a drought relief measure and for the enhancement of agriculture in Vilavancode and Kalkulam taluks.
