Meena Kumari (1st August 1932) was one of the most prominent Hindi film actresses and an Urdu poetess who started her career at the tender age of 7. She was known for portraying the roles of a tragic, suffering woman in most of her films. She immortalized the role of a courtesan, Sahibjaan in the film Pakeezah with her extraordinary charm and beautiful performance on all its songs. She has films like Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Parineeta, Baiju Bawra, Daera, Ek Hi Raasta, Sharda, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi, Aarti, Main Chup Rahungi, Dil Ek Mandir, Kaajal and Phool Aur Patthar, Chandan Ka Palna, CID, Ardhangini, Satta Bazaar, Shararat, Yahudi, Do Bigha Zamin, Foot Path, Gomti Ke Kinare etc. to her credit.
