उत्तरकाशी के स्थानीय निवासी ने टनल धंसने की चौंकाने वाली वजह बताई. उन्होंने बताया की "जहां अभी टनल बन रहा है उस जगह पर पहले एक मंदिर भी था. वहां के पंडितो ने उस मंदिर तोड़ने के लिए मना किया और उनकी बात ना मानने पर मंदिर तोड़ दिया गया. मंदिर तोड़ते ही टनल धंस गया".

A local resident of Uttarkashi gave the shocking reason for the tunnel collapse. He told that "Earlier there was a temple at the place where the tunnel is being built. The pundits there refused to demolish that temple and when they did not agree, the temple was demolished. As soon as the temple was demolished, the tunnel caved in."
