'There's no point in making any more images', says artist and writer Victor Burgin

'There are already enough photographs in the world... What we need to do is re-read the images we already have', says Victor Burgin. In this film, shot in Paris, Burgin introduces some of his key artworks from Tate's collection, including his Lei Feng series (1973), in which a Western advertising image for sherry is juxtaposed with a text extract from a Maoist parable. Ideologies collide in these combinations of photographs and texts, as Burgin sets about decoding structures of representation.
