According to Hindu mythology, Mahishasura is a buffalo demon known for his evil and deceptive ways. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva came together and combined their energies to create a new kind of Shakti ; Maa Durga. The intense battle between Maa Durga and Mahishasura lasted for 9 days when she ultimately killed the demon, and hence came to be known as ‘Mahishasuramardini’, which means ‘Slayer of Mahishasura’.
Let us celebrate the festival of Navratri and rejoice the victory of Maa over Mahishasura with this beautiful rendition by Ravindra Sathe.
