Shankar Jaikishan, were a duo who composed Indian music for the Hindi film industry, who worked together from 1949--1971. Shankar-Jaikishan, along with other artists, wrote "everlasting" and "immortal melodies" in the fifties and sixties.Shankar Jaikishan were one of the famous music directors in Bollywood. They worked together from 1949-1971. In 1971, Jaikishan died due to cirrhosis of liver. Shankar carried on with the banner of Shankar-Jaikishan alone til 1987 (his death).They started also their career from a Raj Kapoor film, Barsaat which became superhit because of the songs they composed. Their main awards included 9 filmfare awards and government of India awarded them Padmashri (fourth highest civilian award) in 1968.
