New Bail Act राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने हाल में इस बात को लेकर चिंता जताई थी कि छोटे अपराध करने वालों को भी काफी समय तक जेल में रखा जाता है. इसके बाद सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने देशभर के सभी जेल अधिकारियों से ऐसे कैदियों की जानकारी 15 दिन में राष्ट्रीय विधि सेवा प्राधिकरण को उपलब्ध कराने का निर्देश दिया है. आखिर जमानत के बाद भी कैदियों को जेल में ही क्यों रहता पड़ता है और इसे लेकर देश का कानून क्या कहता है, इसे विस्तार से समझते हैं.
