Lieutenant Hitesh Kumar joined his father's battalion 19 years after he died during the Kargil war.
On the night of June 12, 1999, a lance naik, Bachan Singh, in the 2nd Battalion of Rajputana Rifles, was shot dead at Tololing, in Kargil. His six-year-old son swore then, to join the army when he grows up.
Exactly 19 years later the young boy passed the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and was commissioned a lieutenant.
No! This ain't a story. We are talking about the 25-year-old lieutenant, Hitesh Kumar.
Hitesh will now be serving in the same battalion as his father.
After the passing out parade, Hitesh paid tribute to his father in Muzaffarnagar.
Recalling his memories, Hitesh says, he always wanted to join the army. His dream also became the dream of his mother.
Hitesh's mother, Kamesh Bala said, life became difficult after my husband passed away. All I focussed on, was to give a good upbringing to both of my sons, Hitesh and Hemant. Where Hitesh's dream has come true, Hemant is also preparing to join the army.
Bachan Singh's companion Rishipal Singh said that Bachan was a brave soldier. When the battalion was attacked at Tololing, he was shot in the head and died on the battlefield. 17 soldiers were lost the same day, including Maj Vivek Gupta from Dehradun.he also expressed his happiness that his companion Bachan's son received his commission.
