Comedian Kapil Sharma, one of the top entertainers on Indian television, was not being funny on Friday morning when he tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in angst-ridden tweets complaining about corruption, also sarcastically referring to "Achhe Din".
Kapil Sharma alleged that he had been asked for a Rs 5 lakh bribe by Mumbai's civic body BMC for setting up an office.
He tweeted:
"I am paying 15 cr income tax from last 5 year n still i have to pay 5 lacs bribe to BMC office for making my office @narendramodi
"Yeh hain aapke achhe din ? @narendramodi
The twin forces of social media and Kapil Sharma extracted quick results.
Three hours after the post, which had been re-tweeted over 2,500 times, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered action
With his posts fuelling a debate on corruption and also a political crossfire, Mr Sharma posted another tweet in the evening.
"I just voiced my concern on the corruption I faced with certain individuals..Its No blame on any political party be it BJP, MNS or ShivSena"
BMC also wrote to him asking him to file a complaint and to name the official who allegedly demanded bribe
