Kaala Teeka is the story of an astrologer Vishwaveer Jha and his family located in the city of Mithila on the banks of river Ganga. In his quest to keep his only daughter, Gauri, safe and protected, a superstitious Vishwaveer adopts another baby girl, Kaali, who has been abandoned. Kaali is believed to be Gauri's 'kaala teeka' - a protection from evil energies. As a result, although the two girls are brought up in the same house, Kaali unfortunately is always ill- treated and goes through many hardships in order to keep Gauri safe. However, Kaali grows up to become a strong personality and in spite of being a victim to a heightened superstition, shines as a beautiful example of 'Hope'.
