Reliance Jio is speculated to be in talks with Chinese contract manufacturers like Techchain, FortuneShip and Uniscope for manufacturing of 4G VoLTE feature phones, according to a report by Financial Express.
The talks are at their initial stage however the report said that the company is eager to introduce 4G VoLTE feaure phones and has asked for engineering samples from the Chinese contract manufacturers.
Lava had earlier introduced its 4G Connect M1 feature phone which was priced at Rs 3333. Indian handset makers such as Micromax and Intex are also gearing up to launch 4G VoLTE feature phones by June in the sub-Rs 2000 price segment.
The 4G feature phones will allow Jio to capture a sizeable market and will also enable it to expand its userbase by tapping users that do not want to shift to smartphones and at the same time want to avail 4G VoLTE benefits.
