Opinions were divided on whether India would beat England at Trent Bridge, but almost everyone had agreed on an evenly matched, intense, high-scoring contest. In fact, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow blazed away to a 73-run stand in 62 balls. Then Kuldeep Yadav (6 for 25) took 3 wickets in 10 balls, and England were suddenly 105 for 4. There was dogged resistance from Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, but 268 was never going to challenge a strong Indian order on a placid pitch. Shikhar Dhawan got them off to the start they needed before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli calmly batted England out of the contest.
