Angered at Victoria's late declaration in their 1982 Sheffield Shield clash, South Australia skipper David Hookes promoted himself to open in the fourth innings, and promptly smashed first-class cricket's fastest 'authentic' century (ie, not helped by declaration bowling), from just 35 balls in 43 minutes on October 25.

This edited footage of the innings, showing just 34 balls, and with a clip of Hookes celebrating a century with NSW 'keeper Greg Dyer applauding in the background, comes from a tribute clip prepared by Channel 9 in the wake of Hookes' untimely death in 2004
