Varun was born in Kolkata but moved to Pune when he was 11 years old, driven by a serious passion for badminton. He dedicated himself to the sport and trained rigorously at the renowned Nikhil Kanetkar Academy in Balewadi. His hard work paid off, and he swiftly rose to become one of the top Junior Shuttlers in the country. As of March 2021, Varun achieved an impressive World Ranking of #1 in the BWF Junior Rankings. He has a remarkable track record, having won the Uganda International series in 2021, the Lithuanian Juniors in August 2019, and the Li Ning Cyprus Juniors & Valmar Juniors in April 2019. Additionally, he showcased his skill and determination by securing the runner-up position at the Hungarian Junior Championships in February 2020, and at various other competitions such as the Russian Juniors, Dubai Junior International, and Portuguese International Junior Championships in 2019. With an overall record of 75 matches played, Varun boasts an impressive 78% win percentage, underscoring his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport of badminton.
