Controversies around Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati began as soon as the film, which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles, went on floors and they don’t seem to be dying anytime soon, in fact it’s only getting murkier by the day.

We bring you a rundown of the entire Padmavati controversy, right from the beginning:
· Members of the Rajput Karni Sena vandalized the film’s sets constructed at the Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur and also assaulted Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in January 2017, for allegedly having a love-making sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji in his opus.

· After the Jaipur incident, Akhilesh Khandelwal, Chairman of Madhya Pradesh's Hosangabad Municipal Corporation, announced a reward of Rs. 10,000 for anyone who would slap Bhansali with a shoe. He later told the media that they consider it their responsibility to 'rein in such forces’, who are trying to distort history.

· In March 2017, the film’s sets were attacked and set on fire, in Kohlapur. The activists not only torched the sets, which caused severe injuries to several animals, but they also damaged the cars parked outside the sets.

· In October 2017, a group of protestors destroyed a rangoli of Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati in a mall in Surat. It had taken the artist 48 hours to create the rangoli.

· In October, several members of the Rajput Mahamorcha tried to disrupt the 3D launch of the film’s trailer in Mumbai, which was attended by Deepika Padukone.

· After the Karni Sena threatened to burn cinema halls, which will screen Padmavati, Congress leader Shakersinh Vaghela asked SLB to show his magnum opus to the leaders of the Kshatriya community, ahead of its release, to avoid any mishap.

· BJP leader, Arjun Gupta, who is also a member of the Censor Board, recently claimed that he has written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh demanding that Bhansali be tried for treason for distorting historical facts and hurting national sentiment.

· On November 10, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a stay on the release of Padmavati, saying that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) considers all aspects before granting a certificate. The petitioners had sought a stay on the release of the film till the time the alleged historical inaccuracies in the film are not rectified by the makers.

· On November 14, activists from the Shri Rajput Karni Sena vandalized a theater in Kota for screening the trailer of Padmavati.

· Many people have also taken offense to the Ghoomar song as they claim that a Rajput queen would never perform in front of an audience nor bare her midriff.

· BJP MLA Divya Kumari, whose grandfather was the last ruler of Jaipur, said that the women of Rajasthan are not happy with this film made on the valiant queen, who is the epitome of sacrifice. She said that she will not allow any distortion of their glorious history.

· Haryana Minister Vipul Goel has written to Union Minister Smriti Irani that the film glorifies Sultan Aluaddin Khilji rather than our own rich history.

· Adityanath government in their letter to the Union Secretary of Information And Broadcasting have asked the officials to consider public’s view and dissent on the matter before granting a certificate to the movie. Reportedly, in their letter the UP government has stated that the release of the film could lead to an ‘adverse effect’ on the law and order situation and also pose serious security issues.

· The Rajput Karni Sena has called for a nation-wide bandh on December 1, the day Padmavati is slated to hit the theaters.

· Mahipal Singh Makrana, a member of the Rajput Karni Sena, recently stated that though Rajputs never raise a hand on women, if need be they will do it to DeePee like ‘Laksman did to Shuparnakha’.

· A Meerut-based Thakur leader named Abhishek Som, on Thursday offered Rs 5 crore to anyone who beheads Padmavati director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actress Deepika Padukone. Post the threats, DeePee and SLB have been provided with police protection.

· The Censor Board has returned Padmavati's application back to the filmmakers owing to certain ‘technical deficiencies’ in the form and now, the film will be reviewed by the Censor Board as per the rules, once the makers return the completed application and this may delay the release of the film.
