अमेरिका ने जब अफगानिस्तान की सेना को प्रशिक्षण दिया, तब इस सेना को आधुनिक हथियारों भी दिए। 15 अगस्त को तालिबान द्वारा अफगानिस्तान के काबुल समेत करीब 25 प्रांतों पर कब्जा करने के बाद, अफगानी सेना दुम दबाकर भाग गई। जिसके बाद करीब 1.5 लाख करोड़ के ये हथियार तालिबानी लड़ाकों के कब्जे में आ गए हैं।
