दूरदर्शन के एकाधिकार को तोड़ने का काम भारत में सबसे पहले जी टीवी ने किया। जी टीवी देश का पहले प्राइवेट ब्रॉडकास्टिंग चैनल था, जिसने 2 अक्टूबर, 1992 को टेलिविजन के क्षेत्र में पहली बार कदम रखा था। वहीं न्यूज की दुनिया में भी जी नेटवर्क के और देश के पहले प्राइवेट न्यूज चैनल जी न्यूज ने 13 मार्च, 1995 को कदम रखा, और इतिहास रचा।
