With two titans of Bollywood clashing over the weekend, Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani were all set to be the only thing India cared about these three days! On this episode of Bollywood Business, Komal Nahta analyzes the performance of the two films, and how audiences reacted to the two highly anticipated films.
Dilwale started off with a confident collection of 21 crores on Friday, which culminated into a gross total of 65 crores over three days. Komal Nahta says that due to SRK's unfavorable comments and agitations from groups like Shiv Sena, the film suffered losses in certain areas. Dilwale became the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time in the Gulf region, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film also opened at number 9 on the Top 10 film in the US Box Office.
Bajirao too started with a strong showing, but nowhere close to Dilwale's collection with 12.8 Crores. But due to a excellent word-of-mouth from audiences, the film improved with an 18 Crore collection on Sunday, with a final gross of 46.3 Crores.
