भारत की देखा-देखी रूस से सस्ता तेल लेने पहुंचे पाकिस्तान को तगड़ा झटका लगा. रूस ने बिना किसी लाग लपेट के पाकिस्तान को सीधे शब्दों में सस्ता तेल देने से मना कर दिया. पाकिस्तानी अधिकारियों के एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने रूसी अधिकारियों के साथ बातचीत में कच्चे तेल पर 30 से 40 फीसदी की छूट की मांगी थी. लेकिन, इस बातचीत के अगले ही दिन रूस ने कच्चे तेल में पाकिस्तान को किसी भी तरह का डिस्काउंट देने से साफ इनकार कर दिया.

Seeing India, Pakistan got a big shock when it came to buy cheap oil from Russia. Russia simply refused to give cheap oil to Pakistan without any strings attached. A delegation of Pakistani officials had sought 30 to 40 per cent discount on crude oil in talks with Russian officials. But, on the very next day of this conversation, Russia flatly refused to give any kind of discount to Pakistan in crude oil.
