'Sunny' is the story of a wealthy businessman Inderjeet (Dharmendra) who marries Gayatri (Waheeda Rehman), but is unhappy with his marriage, as she is unable to bear him any children. He starts frequenting brothels, where he gets intimate with an attractive prostitute, Sitara (Sharmila Tagore), who becomes pregnant with their child. When Inderjeet dies in a plane accident, leaving Sitara alone and pregnant, Gayatri conspires against Sitara and tells her that the child was still-born and brings up the child Sunny (Sunny Deol) as her own. Years later, Sunny meets an attractiveyoung woman named Amrita (Amrita Singh), whom he would like to marry. Gayatri opposes as Amrita is a dancer and singer on TV, but relents when Sunny is adamant. What happens then is the climax of the film since Amrita is Sitara's niece.
