उमेश पाल हत्याकांड मामले में उम्रकैद की सज़ा के बाद अतीक को नैनी जेल से साबरमती जेल ले जाया गया। अब माफिया अतीक अहमद की जेल को बदलने की तैयारी तेज़ हो रही है। पुलिस जल्द ही सुप्रीम कोर्ट में याचिका दाखिल करेगी जिसमें अतीक को तिहाड़ जेल में भेजने की मांग रखी जाएगी।
