After lending their star power to Pro Kabaddi League and Indian Super League, the Bachchans now want to venture into Indian Premiere League (IPL). If reports are to be believed, then Amitabh Bachchan is interested in buying stakes in an IPL franchise and have decided to put his money on Rajasthan Royals.
Buzz has it that they had first approached the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings however, when things didn’t work out there they decided to invest in 2008 IPL champions, Rajasthan Royals. CEO of AB Corp, Ramesh Pulapka confirmed to TOI that Abhishek Bachchan met Manoj Badale, the principal owner of Rajasthan Royals, in London some time ago. Last week it was reported that Rajasthan Royals is looking at selling 50 per cent of its stakes.
Rajasthan Royals' illustrious status took a beating when three of its players, S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandlia were arrested on charges of spot fixing. Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, who owned stakes in the franchise, had to let it go in 2015 after Kundra was caught placing bets on IPL matches.
Abhishek already owns Pro Kabaddi League franchise Jaipur Pink Panthers and also has shares in Indian Super League franchise Chennaiyin FC. Now, it remains to be seen if BCCI will allow the sale of stakes or not as Lalit Modi’s BCCI stint is still under investigation and his family is the majority stake owner of the controversial franchise.
