It was the palace of Prince Swathi Thirunal, the king of Travancore, and also a famous musician and composer. The museum got the name "Horse Palace" because it contains 122 wooden pillars carved in the shape of galloping horses. It is also known as the Kuthira Malika Palace. Its museum contains weapons, paintings of the Rajas and Ranis of Travancore, a solid crystal throne, full-sized Kathakali figures, and items from Italy, China, and other places belonging to the Maharajas.
