Early 1940s saw the dawn of The Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA), an art movement that played a major role in bringing realism in Indian Cinema which until then had hardly found its place in movies. Some of the initial members of the groups were likes of Prithviraj Kapoor, Bijon Bhattacharya, Ritwik Ghatak, Utpal Dutt, Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, Salil Chowdhury and Pandit Ravi Shankar.
