Apart from land rights, control over smuggling routes of heroin along the Indo-Myanmar border is keeping the ethnic clash in Manipur smouldering. While a significant amount of grade four heroin is brought in from across the border in Myanmar, poppy cultivation is quite rampant in the hilly tracts of Manipur, particularly along the border areas.

मणिपुर में पिछले करीब तीन महीने से हिंसा का दौर जारी है. इसमें सैकड़ों लोग जान गंवा चुके हैं. इस हिंसा के पीछे नशीले पदार्थों के तस्करों का हाथ भी बताया जा रहा. मणिपुर में अफीम का हजारों करोड़ रुपये का कारोबार होता है. इसी अफीम की खेती को हिंसा की एक बड़ी वजह माना जा रहा है.
