Singer Sonu Nigam, who found himself in the midst of a controversy after tweeting about the disturbance that is caused to him by the playing of ‘azaan’ on loudspeakers, lashed out at the trend of issuing fatwas and vigilantism while on a chat show.

While on the show, Sonu said though he has faith in God, he doesn’t like this mentality of issuing fatwas against people and saying that a person should be beheaded or his head should be shaved off (a cleric had issued a fatwa, offering money to whoever would shave off Sonu’s head). Sonu also added that he is also against the lynching of people by Gau Rakshaks and that the government should take strict action against such people.

Recently, Sonu Nigam shaved his head in defiance of a 'fatwa' issued against him by Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi of West Bengal Minority Council. Mr Quaderi had offered to pay Rs. 10 lakh as a reward to whoever shaves the singer go bald and garlands him with shoes. However, he refused to pay the amount to the singer saying he didn't abide by all conditions.
